Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.

Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.

The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines — Journal of Black Behavior Analysis (JOBBA)
1. Scope and Submission Types
JOBBA welcomes manuscripts that advance behavior-analytic research and practice through culturally grounded, community-centered, and liberation-focused perspectives. We accept the following submission types:

Empirical Research Articles

Conceptual/Theoretical Papers

Applied Case Studies
-
Community-Based or Participatory Research Reports

Systematic or Narrative Reviews

Scholarly Commentary
All submissions must clearly articulate their contribution to behavior analysis and relevance to Black communities across the diaspora.
2. Manuscript Preparation
2.1 Formatting Requirements

File Type: Microsoft Word (.docx).
-
Font: 12-point Times New Roman.
-
Spacing: Double-spaced throughout, including references, tables, and figure captions.
-
Margins: 1 inch on all sides.
-
Pagination: Number pages consecutively.
-
Blinding: Manuscripts must be anonymized for double-blind peer review (remove identifying information, self-citations should use neutral phrasing).
3. Title Page (Submitted Separately)
Provide a separate document that includes:

Manuscript title
-
Author names and affiliations
-
Corresponding author email
-
A 100–150 word author bio for each contributor (optional at submission, required upon acceptance)

ORCID iDs (optional but encouraged)

Conflict of interest statement

Funding acknowledgment (if applicable)
4. Abstract and Keywords

Abstract: 150–250 words summarizing purpose, methods, results, and significance.

Keywords: 3–6 terms relevant to the manuscript.

6. Citations and References
JOBBA uses APA 7th edition formatting.
8. Ethical and Research Integrity Requirements
8.1 IRB/Research Ethics
For any study involving human participants, authors must state one of the following in the Method section:

The study received approval from an Institutional Review Board (IRB).

The study received an ethics exemption.
-
No data were collected from human participants (e.g., conceptual papers).
8.2 Informed Consent
Authors must confirm that consent/assent procedures followed ethical standards appropriate to the population studied and aligned with community expectations.
8.3 Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any potential conflicts (financial, professional, relational).
9. Submission Process
All manuscripts must be submitted through the JOBBA online submission portal in OJS. Authors will:

Upload anonymized manuscript

Complete metadata (abstract, keywords, author information)

Suggest 2–3 potential reviewers (optional)

Authors submitting to the Journal of Black Behavior Analysis (JOBBA) agree to the following terms:

Upon publication, authors retain full copyright to their work.

By submitting a manuscript, authors grant JOBBA the non-exclusive right to publish, distribute, and archive the work in print and electronic formats.

All published articles will be released under a Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license, unless otherwise stated.

Authors may deposit the published version of their article in institutional repositories, personal websites, or other open repositories, provided that the original publication in JOBBA is acknowledged.

By submitting, authors affirm that their manuscript is original, does not infringe on any copyright or proprietary rights, and has not been previously published or simultaneously submitted elsewhere.

Permissions.
Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission for any copyrighted materials (e.g., images, figures, questionnaires) included in their manuscript.
